Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 131593.015
Event: 12/02/2020
Employee is killed from gun shot wound

At approximately 4:48 p.m. on December 2, 2020, an employee was walking toward the car in the parking lot to leave work for the day. A former patient had been pacing in the parking lot prior to the employee leaving the facility to go home for the day. When the employee exited the facility the patient engaged the employee in conversation. They sat on the sidewalk talking for 30-45 minutes and it appeared to be a calm conversation. When the employee stood and started walking toward his car the patient followed him and called out to him causing the employee to turn around. The patient pointed a gun at the employee and shot him in the chest causing the employee to fall forward to the ground and was killed. The patient then walked over to the employee and shot him two more times in the head. The patient then walked toward the facility. Other employees, that witnessed the incident, called out to the patient to get rid of the weapon. The patient threw the gun into the bushes and employees then restrained the patient until officers arrived.
