Investigation Summary

At 5:30 a.m. on February 3, 2020, an employee working as a technician for a freight company was inspecting a trailer liftgate. The employee put his left hand through the liftgate frame as the lift gate was coming up. When he took his right hand off of the switch, the hydraulic lift moved slightly before completely coming to a full stop. The employee had his left hand in the way and crushed his hand between the liftgate and its frame. The employee was hospitalized for more than 24 hours and surgery was performed on his hand. The employee continued to remain at home after being cleared to go back for to return to work since there was no light duty position available due the pandemic.
