Employee amputates hand when caught in woodworking machine

At 1:00 p.m. on October 22, 2019, an employee who worked as a shop teacher for a high school was showing a student how to use a planer/woodworking machine. The exhaust system was not working so the employee put his hand up to test the machine when it was struck by the point of operation. The employee amputated his hand and required hospitalization.
