Abstract:
Cancellation of the two hearings on occupational exposure to benzene
to be held in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 25, 1986 and in
Chicago, Illinois on April 8, 1986. The other two hearings,
Washington, D.C. on March 11, 1986 and Los Angeles, California on
April 2, 1986 will be held as previously scheduled. All other dates
for submission of comments, notices of intention to appear, and
hearing evidence remain unchanged, and no changes are being made in
the substance of the proposed rule.

Abstract:
Amendment of existing standard for Occupational Exposure to Benzene.
The revised standard reduces the permissible exposure limit (PEL)
from 10 parts benzene per million parts of air (10 ppm) to an eight
(8)-hour time-weighted average (TWA) of 1 ppm and a short-term
exposure limit (STEL) of 5 ppm. Provides for methods of compliance,
personal protective equipment, employee monitoring, medical
surveillance, medical removal protection, communication of hazards
to employees, regulated areas, and recordkeeping.
