Text For Citation: 03 Item/Group: 010 Hazard: STRUCK BY

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fracture and contusion hazards from an air hose which can flagellate if damaged: a) Utilities, Shops, and Services 1) Steam Cleaning Booth in Machine Shop - Employees operate a transfer car in the booth. The car is powered by a pneumatic motor supplied by an umbilical air line. The air line is not fitted with a safety device exposing employees to the flagellating air line when the car wheels sever the line, observed August 8, 1989. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install air line check valves.
