Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: %% The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to physical hazards to the eyes, face and/or hands: a)Barn #41, (2/15/96) - Wash Crew employee performing cleaning/powerwashing of barn using Biophene disinfectant (with a pH of 10.0) and high pressure wash nozzle was not wearing eye or face protection. b)Barn #41, (2/15/96) - Wash Crew employee performing cleaning/powerwashing of barn using Biophene disinfectant (with a pH of 10.0) and high pressure wash nozzle was not wearing eye or face protection. c)Hatchery, Chick Room (2/21/96) - Hatchery employee disinfecting/powerwashing with high pressure wash nozzle was not wearing eye or face protection. d)Barn #43, (2/22/96) - Wash Crew employee performing cleaning powerwashing of barn using Biophene disinfectant (with a pH of 10.0) and high pressure wash nozzle was not wearing eye or face protection. e)Barn #43, (2/22/96) - Wash Crew employee performing cleaning powerwashing of barn using Biophene disinfectant (with a pH of 10.0) and high pressure wash nozzle was not wearing eye or face protection. f)Barn #43, (2/26/96) - Wash Crew employee performing cleaning powerwashing of barn using Biophene disinfectant (with a pH of 10.0) and high pressure wash nozzle was not wearing eye or face protection. g)Barn #43, (2/26/96) - Wash Crew employee performing cleaning powerwashing of barn using Biophene disinfectant (with a pH of 10.0) and high pressure wash nozzle was not wearing eye or face protection. h)Barn #40, (3/6/96) - Cleaning Crew employee performing cleaning powerwashing of barn using Biophene disinfectant (with a pH of 10.0) and high pressure wash nozzle was not wearing eye or face protection. i)Packing Room, Plant #3 (3/5/96) - An employee using compressed air to blowdown/clean egg packing machine was not wearing eye or face protection. j)Plant #6, (1/24/96) - Employees using compressed air to hose down egg packing machinery during cleaning wore no eye or hand protection. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to reduce or eliminate employee exposure includes, but is not necessarily limited to provide employees appropriate eye, face and hand protection in sufficient quantities and sizes.
