Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.179(j)(2): Frequent inspection. The following items [29 CFR 1910.179(j)(2)(i) to 29 CFR 1910.179(j)(2)(vii)] shall be inspected for defects at intervals as defined in paragraph (j)(1)(ii) of this section or as specifically indicated, including observation during operation for any defects which might appear between regular inspections. All deficiencies such as listed shall be carefully examined and determination made as to whether they constitute a safety hazard: Northeast, saw department, single shipping and receiving dock, Demag 10 Ton serial no. 95433 overhead bridge crane: on or about June 21, 2017, daily inspection for the remote controller's defects was not performed to discover that the "Horn" button was not functional, and could not ensure advance warning signal for personnel in path of transported load. Employees using remote controller were exposed to swinging load struck-by hazards during regular load handling tasks including unloading steel bundles. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirement of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
