Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.352(j): Before heat is applied to a drum, container, or hollow structure, a vent or opening shall be provided for the release of ny built-up pressure during the applicationof heat. On or about June 1 and June 2, 2012, employees performing welding on a pipeline were exposed to potential fire and explosion hazards when a ven or opening was not maintained in such a manner that potential flammable substances were vented at all times to an area that was a sufficiently safe distance from where welding was being performed. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the abatement date, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that employees are protected from fires and explosions while welding where the presence of flammable compounds creates a hazard.
