29 CFR 1910.1027(f)(1)(i): The employer did not implement engineering and work practice controls to reduce and maintain employee exposure to cadmium at or below the permissible exposure limit (PEL): (a) On or about November 6, 2024 - VTD Coater, a maintenance employee was exposed to an airborne concentration of Cadmium at 180 micrograms per cubic meter (ug/m3), approximately 36 times the 8-hour Time Weighted Average OSHA permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 5 ug/m3. The sampling was performed during one shift on November 19, 2024, for 58 minutes. (b) On or about November 6, 2024 - VTD Coater, a maintenance employee was exposed to an airborne concentration of Cadmium at 156 micrograms per cubic meter (ug/m3), approximately 31 times the 8-hour Time Weighted Average OSHA permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 5 ug/m3. The sampling was performed during one shift on November 19, 2024, for 58 minutes. General methods of abatement include, but are not limited to: 1. Utilization of wet methods such as, but not limited to, wetting the area and tooling with a water spray prior to contact and incrementally as equipment is disassembled or maintained. 2. Use of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) placed closer to the source.
