29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment was not used when necessary whenever hazards capable of causing injury and impairment were encountered. On or about December 14, 2018, an employee was exposed to fire hazards that resulted in second degree burns to the back and other body parts. The employee was performing a washing process that required transferring toluene from an unbonded and ungrounded 55 gallon drum via a hand pump. The employer did not require use of personal protective equipment to protect against burns to the back and other parts of the body. There is no abatement certification or documentation required for this item.
