Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001D Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock or burns: (a) P/B Northern Alaskan: Employees in the engine room had occasion to work near an extension cord that was run around and wrapped over steel piping from a junction box to a fluorescent light fixture. This condition exposed employees to possible abraded conductors and shock (electrical) and electrical burns. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to install the required wiring in conduit and provide a suitable electric outlet or switch near the light.
