Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock and burns: (a) P/B Northern Alaskan: Employees had occasion to work or walk near a flexible electrical cord that was run through a hole in a steel support beam without protection to prevent the insulation of the conductors from becoming damaged and exposing bare wires. This condition exposed employees to possible electric shock or burns if employee contact was made with live electrical conductors. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to install permanent wiring in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
