Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: ELECTRIC
The alleged violations below have been grouped because they involve similar or related hazards that may increase the potential for injury resulting from an accident. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock and burns: (a) P/B Northern Alaskan: Employees working in the boiler room had occasion to work on or near an electric motor that did not have the strain relief or bushing installed on the conductors entering the motor. This condition exposed employees to possible contact with live bare electrical conductors should the wires be pulled from motor terminals. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to install the conductors in conduit with the proper strain relief and bushing.
