Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and/or explosion hazard from ignition of aviation fuel: a) Hanger 134, Convair T-29 Military Aircraft - Employees sawing off the right outboard wing section near the fuel tank with a portable gasoline powered rotary cutting saw were not protected against the ignition of flammable vapors March 5 and March 7, 1988. Among othe methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is by the purging and/or inerting fuel tanks of fuel vapors prior to dismantling.
