Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a. The employer did not adequately protect employees from the hazard of being struck by, mauled, or bitten by wild animals such as ligers (lion/tiger crossbreed) and there were no adequate procedures and training on the safe handling and transferring of animals. One feasible and useful method of abatement is the development of and training on safe procedures and the use of shields, barriers, etc., for the transferring of animals with routine monitoring and enforcement of the procedures.
