Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees On or about March 30, 2022: Employees engaged in manufacturing of structural steel support beams at the facility located at 2391 S North Rd., Grand Island Nebraska were exposed to struck-by and caught between hazards in that the employees were not protected against the steel beams tipping over after placement in the material staging area, north side of paint operations. AMONG OTHER METHODS, FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD ARE: i. The employer should re-evaluate current procedures for protecting employees who work in areas where struck by or crushing hazards exist such as zones including lifting and sorting of heavy materials. ii. The employer should reassess providing additional training for personnel on struck-by hazards associated with this type of work. iii. The employer should re-evaluate current engineering controls and identify, then implement improvements that would mitigate the potential for steel beams tipping over and striking the employees who work in areas where struck by or crushing hazards exist.
