Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: The employer failed to prevent an employee from bypassing an interlocked guard which exposed the employee to a hazard. This was documented at 1717 Center Park Road, Lincoln, Nebraska on January 13, 2022. The employer failed to ensure that an employee could not bypass the interlocked guard to the blast chamber rotors of a press cleaning machine while the rotors were still moving after the emergency stop was engaged. The injured employee inadvertently disabled the area access interlock through inappropriate use of an emergency stop button instead of use of the written lockout tagout procedure on which he had been trained.
