Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1)(i): The employer did not select and have each affected employee use, the types of personal protective equipment that would protect the affected employee(s) from the hazards identified in the hazard assessment: (a) On or about October 7, 2019, the employer did not ensure an employee using an Oxygen Acetylene Torch to heat, then cut a stuck steel pin on a garbage truck pivot arm connected to the garbage trucks' rear container gate, used personal protective equipment to protect the employees arms, torso, neck and legs from sparks and embers. This exposed the employee to burn injuries. (b) On or about October 7, 2019, the hazard assessment did not effectively address protective equipment to be worn during Oxygen Acetylene Torch cutting work tasks or other hot work applications. The hazard assessment identified a leather apron to be used, but did not address personal protective equipment to protect the employees arms, neck and upper torso region.
