Abstract: At 7:00 p.m. on May 3, 2017, Employee #1 was in the Coker Unit, clearing the pump to get the turbine ready for maintenance. While flushing the pump, some Heavy Coker Gas Oil got reintroduced into the pipe. When the oil touched the water in the sewer drain, it flashed back at 700 degrees and burned the employee, who was positioned near the drain tagging valves. Employee #1 sustained second degree burns to the abdomen, third degree burns of both hands and burns on both knees.
