Abstract: At approximately 12:30 p.m. on December 8, 2020, Employee #1 (male, age 58) was operating an A-Frame Herschal knockout machine to remove core material from an aluminum casting. While preparing to knockout a larger casting, the employee used a hoist to lift the casting and manually maneuvered it into place between the pneumatic knockout hammers. During this process, Employee #1 inadvertently pressed the foot pedal, causing the machine to cycle. Their right index finger became pinched between the pneumatic knockout hammer and the casting, resulting in a partial amputation injury to the end of the finger. The employee was treated without hospitalization.
