Abstract: At 11:00 a.m. on July 7, 2020, an employee working as a laborer for a water and sewer line construction contractor was striking the corner on the top portion of a metal excavation shoring structure. The employee was joining the corner into a pocket aligning the structure during assembly by striking the steel pin. The pin was designed to hold the structure together. The structure dropped into the corner pocket of the bottom structure after the employee struck the corner. At this time, the edge of the top portion of the shoring structure slammed into the pocket. This caused the two pieces to come together and catch the employee's index finger. The employee was hospitalized to treat an amputated fingertip.
