Abstract: At 11:30 a.m. on November 26, 2019, an employee working in maintenance for a paint and coating manufacturer was troubleshooting the spring return unit of the paint booth air duct damper system. The employee had placed his hand on the damper area while using his other hand to actuate the test button in order to jog the equipment. This caused the damper to rotate and close on the employee. The employee amputated his right thumb to the first knuckle and required medical treatment without hospitalization.
