Abstract: At 3:00 p.m. on September 11, 2018, an employee was working to close of a work site for the day and asked a coworker to check the perimeter fence to ensure it was secure. The coworker notified the employee that a section needed to be tied together and asked if the employee had tie wire to secure the fence. The employee went to his work truck and brought a roll of tie wire to the location of the fence that needed tying. The employee laid the roll of wire on the ground and placed a foot on the roll to secure it in place and as he wrapped the free end around his left index finger to pull out a section of wire. Distracted by a discussion with the coworker, the employee did not remove his left finger from the wire as he pulled on the wire with his right hand. The pulling action tightened the wire around his left index finger and amputated half of the finger.
