Abstract: At 9:55 a.m. on February 1, 2018, Employees #1 and #2 and a coworker, employed by an excavation company, were working at a highway work zone. Employees #1 and #2 were compressing a set of speed shoring in preparation for installing the shoring in a trench. The coworker was working as a flagger, signaling vehicles away from the work zone. A driver drove past the coworker and through the traffic control zone, striking Employees #1 and #2. The driver continued for approximately 200 feet and then stopped the vehicle. Emergency services were called, and Employees #1 and #2 were transported to the hospital. They were admitted and treated for their injuries, which included fractures and lacerations.
